A pair of business-related developments have demonstrated that while Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) ideology may be experiencing a crackdown on campuses, some people are working overtime to ensure it continues to be propagated on a corporate level.
The Daily Wire reported the scheduling of an event called the People of Color Career Fair, which is to be held on October 22. The event, which is partnered with companies ranging from Target to General Mills and Delta Airlines, is described as “the premier networking and hiring experience for professionals of color in the Twin Cities.”
The Rae MacKenzie Group, which is sponsoring the event, openly vouches for racially-oriented hiring practices, as “the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the US will be a multicultural majority nation by 2042. If you want a fighting chance at reaching non-white consumers, remember: diverse consumers support diverse companies.”
Meanwhile, another business-related venture is exhibiting a similar openness in terms of racial preferences. New York is offering a $2.3 billion grant funded at taxpayers’ expense to businesses owned by women and minorities for a reconstruction project at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Speaking on the subject, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) declared “New York remains committed to providing travelers with a premier experience that includes world-class amenities and record involvement by local minority- and women-owned businesses will ensure just that.”
Democrat Rep. Gregory Meeks (R-NY) was even more explicit, arguing at a press conference “We’ve gotta have equity in these projects. It’s never a giveaway. Because as we’re talking and fighting about DEI, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as something that’s a giveaway, something that’s just a charity. No it’s not! It’s good business!”
It may seem good business to Rep. Meeks, but if DEI overplays its hand in the corporate world as it has in academia, it may instead prove to be a bust.
