Comedy is making a resurgence, and no one is happier about this than yours truly. I’ve been calling out the targeting of good comedy by activists who wouldn’t know funny if it sat on their faces and wiggled for years now. So to see stand-up comics, who perform one of my favorite forms of entertainment, not give a crap anymore about being “cancelled” or protested is glorious.
Stand-up comic Josh Ocean Thomas recently was doing a set at a Laugh Factory club when he proceeded to do some crowd work, an ad-lib form of stand-up in which the comedian has a conversation with a member of the audience and comes up with jokes on the fly based on the answers from the audience member.
Thomas simply asked a guy in the crowd, named Nick, what he did for a living, and that’s when “the magic happened” — a hilarious interaction that Thomas was not expecting.
“Nick, what do you do for a living now?” Thomas asked.
“I work for the Biden administration,” Nick responded.
“You work for the Biden administration?” Thomas followed up. “Is your job to wake him up?”

It’s gets better from there. But, as anyone into comedy knows, explaining jokes takes the humor away from them.

The shrugging of the shoulders as if to say ‘Eh? How about it?’ was perfect. And it doesn’t matter who you support. Funny if funny, and THAT was funny.
