As lawmakers in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, continue to delay filling potholes in their constituents' neighborhoods, a 12-year-old boy has decided to show them how the job is done and has begun filling the potholes himself.

Monte Scott, sick of people damaging their cars on his pothole-filled street, went to work, grabbed a trash can, and filled the holes with dirt and gravel from his backyard.

“I didn't want people messing up their cars like my mom did,” Monte told WZZM-TV. “If somebody were to drive down the street and hit a pothole, and then would have to pay like $600-700 to get their car fixed, they would be mad."

Monte did all of this from his heart and his neighbors showed their gratitude by giving him an “allowance” and some extra encouragement.

“You’re gonna be something too, you’re a hard worker,” one neighbor is heard telling him in a video of his work that has gone viral.

“He just took it upon himself to [fix the road],” Trinell Scott, Monte’s mother, said. “That’s just the type of kid he is. When he sees there’s a problem or a need, and he thinks he can fix it, he’ll try to fix it.”

Muskegon Heights Mayor Kimberly Sims heard of Monte’s hardworking and told the Detroit Free Press she was inspired by him and realizes the pothole problem has gotten severe.

"We have a constant issue of potholes," Sims told the Free Press. “I commend the young man's efforts. He's 12, he should be getting ready for school the next day, or playing video games.”

But those cars keep coming down that pothole filled-road and the young man has his focus on helping those in need.

“I’m going to keep doing it,” Monte said. “To keep helping the community out.”

If only more politicians could get the job done like this kid. Monte Scott for mayor anyone?
