When Patrick Mitchell was just 12 years old, he begged his mother to let him start taking estrogen hormones to transition into a female.

Now, just two years later, Patrick has changed his mind about the drastic decision.

"You wish you could just change everything about you, you just see any girl and you say I'd kill to be like that," Patrick told 60 Minutes Australia, according to an upcoming sneak peek of the segment on the show's Facebook page.

Patrick's decision to transition initially came after doctors diagnosed him with gender dysphoria.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, gender dysphoria "involves a conflict between a person's physical or assigned gender and the gender with which he/she/they identify."

Mitchell's mother was initially supportive of her son's decision and allowed him to start taking the hormones to begin the transition, telling 60 Minutes' Ross Coulhart, "When he was young he would dress up in girls' clothes and at one stage he did stage he did say to me could he be taken to the doctor to be made into a girl."

But once Patrick's hair began growing and his body began growing breasts, he admitted that he might have made a mistake.

"He looked me in the eye and said 'I'm just not sure that I am a girl,'" his mother said.

It was after teachers began referring to Patrick as a girl did he question whether his choice was the right one.

Since the decision to revert back to his original body, Patrick has stopped taking hormones and will be undergoing surgery to remove the breast tissue he's accumulated, but it is still unknown whether or not all the changes are reversible.

Here's a sneak peek into the upcoming episode, scheduled to air on Sunday.
