Staff members at University Baptist Church (UBC) in Waco, TX (just a handful of miles from Baylor University) wanted to host a welcoming party for Brittney Griner on Monday after the Baylor alum returned from Russia.
But not too many people were keen on joining this celebration, and only 20 people actually attended the event, which is kind of hilarious.
Naturally, when ESPN found out, they wrote a long article in which they criticized the citizens of Waco and higher-ups at Baylor for not showing “adequate” support for the WNBA star.
"I will say this: Baylor's women's coach has used her own personal platform to ... give support and love for Brittney," Sharyl West Loeung, a speaker and “facilitator,” at UBC, said in the piece. "But otherwise, from an administrative point of view, that hasn't happened. For myself, coming from a graduate of the seminary and having worked there and [knowing] how much they confess being this Christian organization, I really wanted to see more.”
But should you really be expecting more?
In case we’ve forgotten, the only thing Griner is responsible for in this situation is getting herself arrested for illegally possessing weed products while going through a Russian airport. That was a crime, and while the 9-year jail sentence was certainly overkill, she idiotically put herself at the mercy of the Russian justice system and international politics.
Of course, the mainstream media has framed the story to put little emphasis on her actions and instead highlight her “victimhood.” After all, it was unbearable for them to watch one of their golden children -- a black lesbian -- suffer far away from home.

As such, it would make sense that ESPN, which is basically just ABC’s overfunded sports section at this point, would throw anyone who doesn’t hail her as some sort of hero under the bus.
But here’s the thing: no one has to care that she’s back.
The only reason anyone on the left thinks she’s worth celebrating is because of her gender, sexual orientation, and skin color. Most people, however -- including those in Waco and working at Baylor -- realize that there’s no need to worship someone based on those characteristics, and further understand that she brought this situation on herself. We have yet to find a reason why she’s worth celebrating.
Griner is back, and that’s a good thing. But don’t think for one second that America has to -- or will -- bow down to this entitled, idiotic, and America-hating athlete.
