Watching the opening ceremonies of the Tokyo Olympics Friday, William C. Rhoden felt the U.S. needs to be humbled for its white nationalism, the Capitol riots and our flag. He’s a world-class race-baiter, and he’s paid to spew garbage like this by ESPN for its blog, The Undefeated, and through other forums.

Rhoden also shared his negative views on Monday’s CBS This Morning program. He included some positive comments, stating, “I love the opening ceremonies, march of countries.” He also made some highly inflammatory remarks.:

“Then I realized, you know, man, particularly after these last four years, I had it wrong. Nationalism is not good. We’ve seen the rise of White nationalism. Nationalism is not good.

“And also, this whole idea — I keep thinking back on the Capitol riots, and I saw a lot of, you know, U.S. flag. … So now I wonder What America I live in. … These Olympics should be a time of soul searching.”

Channeling his inner Obama, Rhoden said the United States needs to be humbled, knocked off its high horse. Team USA’s men’s basketball and women’s soccer teams were certainly humbled in their early games, as both suffered humiliating losses.

“I think we should be humbled. You know, I mean, this whole last year in this country — it’s about entitlement and privilege. Nobody epitomizes that more than basketball. We’re just supposed to win the Gold. … Across the board, we just need some humility. … It’s more than (a wake-up call). It’s a nightmare.”

Also curious about Olympic protests, Rhoden was wondering how those would be handled. We can know for certain how he’ll handle any anti-American behavior by Olympic athletes. He’ll prop them up like Colin Kaepernick. The International Olympic Committee is not as permissive about protests as the NBA and NFL are and has been trying to prevent them from happening on victory podiums.

The author of “Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Black Athlete,” Rhoden says the athletes in Tokyo are held hostage because they have to be there. The Olympics should have been canceled because of COVID-19, he harped.

Rhoden has a bad habit of using big events to accuse America of racial sins. Now it’s the Olympics. Two months ago, it was the anniversary of George Floyd’s death when Rhoden whined that the Black Lives Matter momentum of 2020 had dissipated. We never as a nation got to the core of racism, Rhoden said, even though that’s all we heard about from athletes and race-baiters last year.

“Now there are fans in the stands, and we see a change. We seem to have gotten back to normal. Little to no Black Lives Matter signage is seen around arenas, and certainly not on the court,” Rhoden complained.

Triggered about athletes once again standing for the national anthem, Rhoden said, “It’s as though the league has given in to the gravitational pull of racism and white supremacy where racism is only acknowledged when it is blasted in our faces, as it was with Floyd.”

Rhoden just keeps adding to the race-baiting credentials he started compiling in his 30-plus years as a columnist at the New York Times. It’s what he gets paid for, and it’s the reason behind CBS This Morning host Anthony Mason called him “legendary.”
