You never know who’s watching. We’re all guilty of it, but sometimes when you become a little too candid with someone you don’t know particularly well, their eyes might not be the only ones watching.

ABC News Washington correspondent and admitted “socialist” David Wright has been suspended from his position for comments he made on an undercover video released on Wednesday by Project Veritas.

Here’s part of what Wright said:

I feel terrible about it. I feel that the truth suffers, the voters are poorly informed, and people also have the opportunity to tune into whatever they want to hear. And so, it’s like there’s no upside in, or our bosses don’t see an upside in doing the job we’re supposed to do; which is to speak truth to power and hold people to account.

According to Project Veritas, ABC News said in a statement:

Any action that damages our reputation for fairness and impartiality or gives the appearance of compromising it harms ABC News and the individuals involved. David Wright has been suspended, and to avoid any possible appearance of bias, he will be reassigned away from political coverage when he returns.

A true journalist’s job is to report the news as the facts dictate, not to “speak truth to power.” You can absolutely hold people to account, but again, the facts need to dictate that the person or entity in question justifies their being held to such an account.

In essence, you can’t be both an activist and a journalist. True journalism is based off of objectivity. Activists don’t posses that trait.

Further on in the video, Wright makes a confession that many believe but not many talk about openly.

“I don’t think we’re terribly interested in the voters,” Wright said before later saying, “We just want conflict.”

It’s like I’ve said many times. Before media outlets are news organizations, they are businesses. Their jobs are to make their outlet money by producing TV ratings which in turn garner them coveted advertising dollars, and the wheel keeps turning.
