American Airlines has reportedly opened up an investigation into Lena Dunham’s claim that she overheard employees using “transphobic talk” while waiting at an airport. According to a statement provided to Fox News, however, the airline so far has been "unable to substantiate" Dunham's claims.
In a tweet sent out on Thursday, Dunham said she wasn't going to criticize the airline that delayed her flight, but she was going to publicly criticize the attendants who she claim she heard “having a transphobic talk”:
Not gonna call out the airline who delayed cuz shit happens BUT I did just overhear 2 @AmericanAir attendants having a transphobic talk.

Dunham called overhearing the talk the “worst part of this night,” saying that during this particular time in history, “we should be teaching our employees about love and inclusivity”:

In a private message to American Airlines, Dunham detailed that she overheard the employees saying they believe being transgender is a fad and that they would not accept their own children if they came out as transgender.
“What if a trans teen was walking behind them?” Dunham demanded.

After obtaining information identifying the attendants, American Airlines replied that were “passing this along to our team for review:

In a statement to ABC News, American Airlines confirmed they were investigating Dunham’s allegations.
“We are looking into these allegations," the statement reads. “From the team members we hire to the customers we serve, inclusion and diversity is a way of life at American Airlines. Every day, our team members work to make American a place where people of all generations, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religious affiliations and backgrounds feel welcome and valued.”
Despite American Airlines investigating the claim, ABC News states the news organization was not able to confirm those employees were employees for the airport or airline. ABC News also states Dunham can be seen on a Delta Air Lines flight in a later Instagram post.
In a statement on Friday to Fox News, American Airlines reportedly said they were "unable to substantiate" Dunham's version of events at this time.
They told Fox News, "We always look into complaints from customers, but at this time, we are unable to substantiate these allegations."
