According to actor Alec Baldwin, Donald Trump does not appreciate the opportunity for personal growth that comes with being the president.

Baldwin made his observations at a recent event at George Washington University where the actor was promoting his new book, “You Can't Spell America Without Me: The Really Tremendous Inside Story of My Fantastic First Year as President Donald J. Trump (A So-Called Parody).”

During the event, Baldwin argued that the president does not appreciate the “tremendous opportunity as a human being” that comes with being president. As a result, Baldwin thinks that “we can’t be mean enough to this guy."

While not citing any source, Baldwin made the argument this way (at the 18:36 mark of the video below):

I thought [Trump] would take a deep breath and go, “OK I’m the president now,” and begin to focus on not only the power and the prestige and all of those kind of tactile or more common perks and benefits of being the president. The President of the United States, beyond anyone alive, more than anyone alive in the world, has a view of humanity you could never get somewhere else. more than anyone in the world has a view of humanity you can never get anywhere else. You travel around the world and you meet the best and the brightest around the world. You see real human suffering and the people trying to heal that suffering. You come home and you meet the creme de la creme of the arts, letters, academia, politics all you do is shake hands and go to dinners and have photo ops with the greatest Americans alive or the neediest human beings alive. I thought to myself he would come to his senses and say, “What a tremendous opportunity this would be for me as a human being.” Forget about it. Forget it. For that alone I thought, we can’t be mean enough to this guy. He just doesn’t get it.
