The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) released its “2025 Studio Responsibility Index.”

This report grades Hollywood studios based not on how good their films are or whether audiences watched them but on how many LGBTQ characters they included and how “positive” those portrayals were.

And guess what? It seems Hollywood failed.

The main offender is Emilia Pérez. Despite its critical success in Hollywood, GLAAD slapped it with a failing grade, calling the film “extremely disappointing.”

According to Breitbart, GLAAD said its widespread promotion in Hollywood shows “just how much more education needs to be done with Hollywood film executives.”

In other words, if you don’t portray a trans character exactly the way GLAAD wants, you’re doing it wrong.

And here’s the absolute truth: it’s not about inclusion. It’s about money.

Hollywood was happy to slap Pride flags on movie posters and flood their scripts with LGBTQ characters when it helped them earn media praise. But audiences stopped showing up, the box office is in decline, and the industry is quietly backing off.

GLAAD’s president is frustrated that there has been an “overall decrease in inclusive films” since hitting a record high in 2023.  Only 23.6% (59 of 250) of films included LGBTQ characters in 2024, according to the report.

Theaters are struggling. Studios are suffering back-to-back box office flops. And the average American doesn’t want to pay to sit through another two-hour lecture on identity politics. They want depth. They want meaning. They want real stories.

GLAAD can scream “transphobia” all day long, but at the end of the day, Hollywood is more than glad to follow the money. It always has.
