Sonya Romero is a kindergarten teacher in Albuquerque, NM who has taken her passion for teaching to a whole new level.

When Child Protective Services (CPS) came to her school regarding two of her students, they couldn’t find an emergency placement for the children. Romero volunteered her home as a safe place for those kids without a second thought. She was only meant to keep them for two days. It has now been six months and what was meant to be safe asylum is now a loving foster home.

In response to her boundless kindness, Target wrote two checks for $10,000. The first was for her and, knowing Romero would put most of the money into her school, the second was written to her elementary school.
