A recent article published in the medical journal “Birth” appears to think that one of the most pressing issues in midwifery and prenatal care is “sexed language.”
The article’s author argues traditional sex-based medical language - i.e., terms like “woman” - is not inclusive enough and “causes harm to all who birth," including "non-binary" and "transgender" people.
“A recent focus in reproductive healthcare on ‘sexed language’ reflects an ideology of unchangeable sex binary and fear of erasure, from both cisgender women and the profession of midwifery. In this paper, we highlight how privileging sexed language causes harm to all who birth—including pregnant trans, gender diverse, and non-binary people—and is, therefore, unethical and incompatible with the principles of midwifery,” the article claims.
The paper suggests that fixed sex and gender terms are offensive, harmful, “colonialist,” heteropatriarchal, and a litany of other reasons why the terms that have been used for centuries are suddenly detrimental to society.
Because of course, what could be more harmful than the term “woman” when referring to the people that give birth? Since apparently all kinds of LGBTQ+ people can participate in the birthing process as well.
Unfortunately, many of the people advocating for this type of change are self-proclaimed feminists, yet they see no problem in eliminating the uniqueness and specialty of womanhood and femininity. Moreover, although leftists always claim to have “science” on their side, there is a blatant disregard for it in nearly everything they do.
And the worst part is that they no longer simply ignore science and make up terms - now, they expect everyone else to adopt an imaginary vocabulary that is completely unscientific, and entirely anti-woman.
