Gavin Newsom Blames Conservatives, Fails to Accept Responsibility for California's Problems

On Tuesday, during California's State of the State Address, a speech intended to outline upcoming policies and improvements for the state, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) shifted the speech to blame conservatives for his failures.

He claimed that right-wing forces were “threatening the very foundation of California’s success,” and that California’s culture was “the antidote to the poisonous populism of the Right, and to the fear and anxiety that so many people are feeling today.”

Newsom further stated:

“For conservatives and delusional California bashers, their success depends on our failure. They want to impeach the very things that have made us successful, as a tactic to turn America toward a darker future. They do so in the name of ‘liberty’ and ‘freedom.’ They want to roll back social progress, social justice, racial justice, economic justice, clean air, clean water, and basic fundamental fairness. They would cleave America from the principles of freedom and the rule of law. And in the process, throw our economy and, in many respects, society as we’ve known it, into chaos.”

Instead of taking responsibility for record-high crime rates, mass migration out of the state, astronomical homelessness and countless other problems, he thinks the problem is the conservatives. Newsom, however, is failing to draw any correlation between conservatives and these California problems that red states do not have to the same extent.

It’s not that conservatives want liberals to fail for the sake of failure. In fact, liberals need no help from conservatives in failing. Rather, it is the fundamental, mutually exclusive ideals about the understandings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in which they differ.
