Four Northwestern University professors were arrested for obstructing the police from a pro-Palestine encampment in April. However, their charges were just dropped.
As ABC News reports one of the professors was “charged criminally for allegedly obstructing police after participating in the protests.”
The four employees were each charged with a class A misdemeanor, which could result in a $2500 fine and up to one year in jail. But now, it appears the professors will go completely unpunished.
Alithia Zamantakis, an assistant professor at Northwestern’s Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing, who previously faced the charges of obstructing the police, said “A genocide is happening and I was acting in accordance...they were attempting to silence us."

Northwestern spoke about the charges earlier this week, stating, "While the University permits peaceful demonstrations, it does not permit activity that disrupts University operations, violates the law, or includes the intimidation or harassment of members of the community."
However, Zamantakis and others have been very adamant in their disagreement and have continued to argue that their actions - however illegal - were somehow justified because they were supporting the pro-Palestine cause.
