A group of Black Lives Matter protesters broke into a policeman’s wedding Saturday because he was allegedly involved in the death of Stephon Clark in Sacramento, California in March of 2018.
At the wedding, the group of protesters barged in on the policeman while he was sitting with his groomsmen -- and they recorded the whole encounter.
“I was just wondering if you started planning your wedding before you killed Stephon Clark or after and how you’ve been sleeping since March 18. And I know this is supposed to be the happiest day of your life but he will not have that opportunity ever. So we came here to drink wine and also just ask how you’ve been sleeping,” said a woman before she was escorted out.
Stephon Clark was shot approximately 20 times in his grandmother’s back yard because officers thought he was reaching for a gun.
Tanya Faison, founder of the BLM Sacramento group, told local CBS reporters, “I think they need to be approached in spaces where they’re a little more vulnerable.”
“We’re not violent,” Faison continued. “We’re not gonna give to them what they brought to our community, we’re not gonna hurt anyone but we are gonna make them uncomfortable, and they should because someone is dead.”
“People may think that these officers are just going about their lives, but this is a very traumatic event for everyone,” said Sgt. Vance Chandler of the Sacramento Police Department.
The police department also released an official statement, saying, “The Sacramento Police Department is aware of this incident. We take these matters seriously. The safety of our officers is a priority, as well as that of their families. We will continue to take measures to ensure their safety.”
