U.S. Border Patrol agents in East County San Diego intercepted a man who had 30 bundles of methamphetamine stashed inside the gas tank of his Toyota Camry on Saturday. Two hours later, border agents seized another gas tank meth stash near San Clemente.

At approximately 8 a.m., Border Patrol agents at the State Route 94 checkpoint referred a 23-year-old male U.S. citizen to secondary inspection.  A  K-9 sniff of the man’s 1998 Camry sedan resulted in a positive alert.  Agents searched the car and discovered 30 packages of meth stuffed inside the vehicle’s gas tank.

The 30 packages weighed 72.03 pounds and have an estimated street value of $720,300.  Two hours after this incident, Border Patrol agents at the San Clemente checkpoint on I-5 found 75 pounds of meth stashed inside the gas tank of a Silverado truck.  Both men in both incidents were turned over to agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration.  The Toyota Camry was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Next, U.S. Border Patrol agents on Interstate 5 intercepted a man who had 38 bundles of methamphetamine stashed inside the gas tank of his vehicle on Saturday.

At approximately 10 a.m., Border Patrol agents referred a 39-year-old male driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado to secondary inspection while at the San Clemente checkpoint.  A K-9 sniff of the Mexican national’s truck resulted in a positive alert.  Agents searched the truck and discovered dozens of bundles stuffed inside the vehicle’s gas tank.

The 38 bundles weighed 75.22 pounds and have an estimated street value of $752,200.

Agents arrested the man and turned him, his Silverado, and the narcotics over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
