Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s Climate Scaremongering Is So Last Decade

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh appears to miss a lot of memos.

Last year, he held a press conference to claim that organizers of a Free Speech Rally to be held a few days later on the Boston Common hadn’t actually filed for a permit. In fact, they had, and he could have checked before calling the press to embarrass himself. He also said that he didn’t know who the organizers were, then, a few seconds later, he said that their “hate” was not welcome in Boston. No one in the press corps bothered to ask him how he could know the organizers were full of “hate” if he didn’t know who they were. And, of course, the Free Speech Rally was not hateful. It was populated by journalists, anti-war advocates, and people from all over the political map.

But Mayor Walsh appears to have a voracious appetite for political tomfoolery, and this year, he’s hit on the subject of the weather. Thursday, January 4, in the midst of one of New England’s worst and longest cold spells in history, Marty decided it would be a good time to wax faux-eloquent about, yeah, you got it, the climate.

But he didn’t just pull the typical Gore-esque stunt of claiming that the harsh weather was man-made. No, Marty did Al one better, and, in the midst of record sub-zero temps, claimed the weather was a result of “Global Warming.”

As they’d say in Dorchester, “Seriously, guy?”

Walsh was trying to focus on the flooding along the Massachusetts coast, but, well, he forgot a few things… Here’s how he was quoted on Thursday by Martin Finucane, for the ever-trustworthy and financially stable Boston Globe:

“If anyone wants to question global warming, just see where the flood zones are… Some of those zones did not flood 30 years ago.”

One could hear the Climate Change Cult cringing even as the words froze in the sub-zero air that night.

See, Marty must have forgotten that the promoters of anthropogenic “Climate Change” adopted that new title about ten years ago in order to get around the fact that their 1990s predictions of “Global Warming” were not being borne out. In fact, not only were their predictions being shown to have been incorrect, the climate has not appreciably warmed since before 1995.

But, what about Mr. Walsh’s alarmist implication that Boston will sink, Venice-like, into the sea, that the Red Sox will play in scuba gear and Boston rock clubs will have to go acoustic for fear of electrical shock in the knee-deep water? What about his great knowledge that on the Mass coast “some of those zones did not flood 30 years ago?”

Those areas might not have flooded thirty years ago, but they did flood 100 years ago, early in the days of the internal combustion engine, prior to the supposed man-caused “melting of the polar ice caps” and “warming of the oceans” that will put the Boston Garden under tons of seawater, as Marty so adroitly implies.

But, sarcastic reactions to his poor choice of words and lack of historical knowledge aside, what of Mayor Walsh’s fundamental assumption and fear: that man is warming the oceans and causing a rise in sea level? After all, in the same press conference, Walsh mentioned that the National Oceanic an Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, because, as we all know, the Constitution really laid out a power for the feds to create an “alphabet bureaucracy” to control the air and oceans) has been sounding alarms about ocean warming. Shouldn’t we take his fears to heart?

Perhaps not.

NOAA has been embroiled in controversy over its slippery climate “science”. Not only did NOAA give its “Outstanding Publication” award to Michael Mann, (creator of the misleading “hockey stick” graph that implies skyrocketing temps coincidental to the internal combustion engine and center of the Climategate scandal that showed politicized “scientists” were e-mailing each other about how to fudge data to make temps look warmer than they were), but NOAA was recently called in Congress out over its manipulation of climate data, and claimed that this winter would be warmer than usual.

And, in fact, the oceans aren’t warming or “rising” the way the climate alarmists depicted, nor predicted.

The work to determine global ocean temperatures is so difficult, and so prone to political manipulation, in fact, that getting hard numbers (the oceans’ levels are variable as well, from one region to another) is nearly impossible. In fact, the ocean temperature debate has become such a political football that some government scientists are interested in moving the readers from lower levels to higher ones and shifting some readers off boats that have previously been used to collect ocean water temp data.

So it’s hard to take Mayor Walsh seriously.

Unless, of course, one sees his pronouncement as part of a larger agenda. And, in fact, it turns out that Mr. Walsh might just have one.

Indeed, it turns out that Boston will soon be home to a major international “Climate Change” conference. It’s scheduled for, yeah, you got it, the summer, and Mr. Walsh will undoubtedly be pushing the “global-change-climate-warming” agenda more and more as the big event approaches.

He’s got the political power. He’s got the energy, and he’s got the gall to think he can get away with saying things that have no foundation whatsoever, so why not spout off about “Global Warming”?

And come summer, will anyone remember that he talked about it while the weather was unbearably cold in Boston?

He probably hopes not.
