A group of protesters marched onto a major highway in San Diego, Calif., Friday night.

The Black Lives Matter demonstrators made their way onto the I-15 South at University Avenue in City Heights, causing bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Up to 10 cop cars lined up along the side of the highway to lead the protesters out of harm’s way.

Once escorted off of the highway, a group of motorcycle cops led the marchers up the exit ramp.

Thanks to the San Diego Police Department, traffic is now back to normal. It is unclear whether the police have made any arrests at this time.

San Diego 10 News’ Itica Milanes reported live from the scene.

She said that the march began peaceful but then escalated when the protesters decided to shut down the highway.
