The Guatemalan illegal alien who set a woman on fire and burned her alive while she slept on the New York City subway just before Christmas has now been charged with murder.
Sebastian Zapeta, 33, is accused of using a lighter to set fire to the 57-year-old Debrina Kawam's clothes as she sat dozing on a stopped F train at the Coney Island station in Brooklyn on Dec. 22. Cell phone video taken by shocked onlookers shows Zapata then calmly leaving the train car and sitting on a nearby bench to watch the woman burn to death, even getting up at one point to fan the flames with his jacket. No one, including stunned bystanders and at least two subway security guards, attempted to help the burning woman, even as she stood up and took several halting steps.

Zapeta, who ICE confirmed is an illegal alien from Guatemala who was deported in 2018 under the Trump administration but since came back into the country at an unknown time and place, confirmed to police that he was the man seen in the subway surveillance footage and cell phone clips, but said he was under the influence and doesn’t remember anything from the incident. As of Monday, he has been charged with one count of first degree murder, three counts of second degree murder, and one count of arson and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted.
