A Black Lives Matter activist and organizer has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for funneling tens of thousands in charitable donations into her own personal bank account and living large off the stolen loot.

According to this, Xahra Saleem, a 23-year-old woman from London, was the director of a charity called Changing Your Mindset, an organization for at-risk kids in Bristol. She also helped organize Black Lives Matter protests in the U.K. back in 2020, for which she set up a fundraising page to buy personal protective equipment to bring the march into compliance with local COVID measures at the time.
Well, allegedly. All in all, she raised nearly $40,000, which went immediately into her own personal bank account. But instead of helping disadvantaged children or buying PPE for the march, Saleem blew thousands on a new phone, hair and beauty appointments, clothes, stuff from Amazon, and car rides between June of 2020 and September 2021, Fox News reports.

According to court documents, Salem began raising money before she’d set up a business account for it, meaning the cash was going straight into her own account and she was responsible for keeping track of it and spending it according to the law. However, the judge said in his ruling that even after she set up an official business account in April of 2021, she didn’t transfer over the cash, and instead kept funneling donated money into her own account for personal expenses.
"In the absence of a business account to pay the money into, the decision was made to pay it into your own account as an interim measure," the judge said. "The others involved in the project trusted you to hold the funds securely until a better arrangement could be made.”
Salem pled “not guilty” before being convicted, clang told she suffered from psychosis and was unable to think rationally. I'd be inclined to call bullcrap on that - except, you know...she is a BLM activist.
