The time for bringing back asylums to shut away dangerous lunatics was yesterday. As was the time for locking up criminals who harm people at random and make people afraid to stroll down even the “safest” of streets.

One bride-t-be found that out the hard way this week, when she was assaulted at random by a man on a sidewalk in Dallas while out with her friends for her bachelorette party.

Canada Rinaldi, a 27-year-old woman from Oklahoma who’d come to Texas with her girlfriends to celebrate her upcoming nuptials, said she’d just left a club at around 2 a.m. and was waiting with her group for an Uber when a man suddenly came up behind her and sucker punched her in the face. The completely unprovoked attack knocked her out cold, causing her to fall forward face-first onto the sidewalk and leaving her with a broken nose, three knocked-out teeth, a black eye, and a gash so bad it required eight stitches. She didn’t wake up until she was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

The whole incident was caught on an Ubers dash cam, which shows what appears to be a dark-complected man with a dark beard in a hoodie assaulting Rinaldi, and then fleeing the scene as her friends try to intervene.

Rinaldi says the random attack ruined what was supposed to be one of the happiest celebrations of her life, and has left her in so much physical and emotional pain that she’s no longer excited to plan the rest of her upcoming wedding just four weeks away.

A GoFundMe page set up by Rinaldi’s friends and family to help cover her unexpected medical bills has already raised nearly $16,000, far above the $10,000 goal.

Meanwhile, Dallas police say they’re investigating the assault, but have not arrested anyone yet.
