Country music star Garth Brooks, 62, has been accused of rape by a former hair and makeup stylist in a new lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The unnamed woman, who goes by “Jane Roe” in her suit, claims the Grammy-winning superstar assaulted her in a Los Angeles hotel in 2019, two years after she began working for him. The woman says in the suit that she’d been working for Brooks’ wife, fellow country singer Trisha Yearwood, since 1999.
The woman alleges that she traveled from Nashville to Los Angeles with Brooks in October of 2019, where he was set to perform at a Grammy Awards tribute to Sam Moore. The two were alone on his private jet, the woman says, adding that that was unusual as Brooks normally had a team with him. She also says she was surprised when the singer booked just one hotel suite for both of them.
After arriving at the hotel, the woman says Brooks “appeared naked in the doorway to the bedroom and raped her,” per the Washington Times. She claims he then carried on as if the incident never happened, and expected her to do his hair and makeup for the show shortly afterward.
The accuser says from that point on, Brooks routinely flashed her, spoke openly open his sexual fantasies including having a “threesome” with her and Yearwood, and sent her explicit texts.
Brooks has denied all the allegations, telling PEOPLE Magazine that he’s been harassed for months by someone trying to blackmail him for money.
"For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face,” the country singer said.
“Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of — ugly acts no human should ever do to another,” Brooks continued. “We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides.”
Brooks took the stage at a sold-out show in Vegas Thursday night amid the breaking news, posting on Instagram, “If there was ever a night that I really needed this, TONIGHT was that night! Thank you for my life!!!!!
