When you don’t have solutions to any of the nation’s problems, just…borrow some from your opponent.

That appears to be what Vice President and current Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris has done with her tax plan, a major part of which she seemed to lift straight from the playbook of one President Donald Trump, against whom she’s vying for the next stint in the Oval Office.

On Saturday, Harris (who is also suddenly pro-border security, despite serving for three-and-a-half years in an administration that, well, isn't) rolled out a new key point for her proposal to save Americans more money amid skyrocketing prices fueled by the Biden-Harris administration’s inflation-ballooning policies: nixing taxes on tips.

"We will continue our fight for working families of America, including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers," Harris said in Nevada during a campaign stop alongside running mate Tim Walz.

There’s just one little problem with this bright new idea: it isn’t new at all. In fact, Trump has been touting the idea of doing away with tip-taxing since June, a plan that would impact millions of workers in the food service business and a slew of other industries.

But perhaps even more hilarious than Harris nicking the policy notion from a well-publicized, months-old Trump plan is the fact that two years ago, Harris was the tie-breaking vote on a bill that forked tens of millions in taxpayer cash over to the Internal Revenue Service, who then launched a program to go after…Americans who weren’t reporting their tips.

It’s true. Americans for Tax Reform points out that the Biden-backed, Democrat-led Inflation Reduction Act - which dumped billions into “green energy” and doing nothing to stem inflation, to Democrats’ own admission - poured $80 million into the IRS and cleared the agency to hire an additional 87,000 employees, including agents to audit American taxpayers. As Vice President, Harris cast the vote to break the tie in the Senate over the bill and cleared the way for it to land on Biden's desk, where it was quickly signed.

Only a month later, the IRS released a press release titled, “IRS introduces new service industry tip reporting program,” in which the agency announced their new “Service Industry Tip Compliance Agreement (SITCA) program,” a system “designed to take advantage of advancements in point-of-sale, time and attendance systems, and electronic payment settlement methods to improve tip reporting compliance.” Under the intrusive program, the IRS can access and monitor business' internal systems to make sure employees are reporting their tips and paying taxes.

You know, the exact opposite of what Harris now says she supports

A word to the wise: when you jack someone else’s idea, make sure it at least lines up with your own platform. Otherwise, it looks like a cheap line you’re peddling for votes.
