A suspected illegal alien has been charged in the murder of a popular Puerto Rican TikTok influencer in Georgia, sparking even more concerns about women’s safety amid Joe Biden’s open-border crisis, and raising serious questions as to whether the administration is trying to downplay the story heading into a contentious election.
Angel DeJesus Rivera-Sanches, 24, has been charged with kidnapping 25-year-old Minelys Zoe Rodriguez-Ramirez, who went missing on October 22 and whose body was later found near the Walmart where she was last seen alive. Rodriguez-Ramirez was a mother to a 9-year-old daughter, who was know for posting popular fitness videos to social media.
Rodriguez-Ramirez was last seen at a Walmart in Cornelia, Georgia, on October 22. Her fiancé said he received a text from her that night at around 9:30, which read, in broken English, “I am waiting for the brother to pick him up.” Her fiancé said he was immediately suspicious because she “doesn’t talk like that.”
Rodriguez-Ramirez’s family reported her missing the next day, and her remains were found near the store where she’d vanished about a week later.
Rivera-Sanches is expected to be hit with murder charges in addition to the kidnapping ones he's already been given. Police say it’s not clear whether he knew the victim or if there’s any connection between them at all. Authorities are also conducting an autopsy to figure out exactly how Rodriguez-Ramirez was killed.
But adding even more murkiness to the whole debacle is the fact that authorities have so far been unable to - or have declined to - confirm Rivera-Sanches’ immigration status, and ICE seems to be dragging its feet on handing over that information.
Now Habersham reports:
[Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George] Christian could not confirm whether Rivera-Sanchez is in the United States illegally. Sources within the Hispanic community believe he belongs to a Mexican gang from Tabasco, Mexico. It has also been said he worked for a construction firm that his alleged fellow gang members from Tabasco currently work for. Whether or not he was brought here on a work visa is unknown. Christian said officials are awaiting documentation from ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for more information.
Which should be a pretty easy thing to figure out, but hey.
However, two members of the state Senate Committee on Public Safety, including Chairman Senator John Albers (R-Roswell) and Senate Majority Leader Senator Steve Gooch, have said Rivera-Sanches is, in fact, in the United States illegally.
“The suspected murderer, Angel DeJesus Rivera Sanchez, an illegal immigrant who had no right to be here, was apprehended in Atlanta as he tried to flee back to Mexico,” Albers said.
