Millions of Americans who grew up thinking that everything in life should be free are now learning the hard way that when you borrow money and promise to pay it back, eventually, you're gonna have to pony up the cash.
The Trump administration's Department of Education this week announced it would soon resume collecting on student loans that have been stalled for the past five years as part of a pandemic-era pause, saying that they'll even garnish wages and take payments out of other government benefits for those who refuse to make payments on their debt. More than 5 million people are currently in default on their student loans, meaning it's been at least 270 days since they've made a payment. The department said people who are struggling to make their payments should contact the student aid office’s Default Resolution Group to “make a monthly payment, enroll in an income-driven repayment plan, or sign up for loan rehabilitation.”
But apparently, the wacky idea that a person actually be required to pay back money they willingly borrowed is sending some people into absolute apoplexy - including this young lady, who is just beside herself at the notion of having to pay a bill she owes.
Leftist is having a mental breakdown because she now has to pay her student loan back.

She says if she defaults then the government can garnish her wages, take her tax refund, and even take her benefits.
She actually wants us to feel sorry for her being a deadbeat. pic.twitter.com/g2xETsySin
“The federal government just announced that it’s coming for your loans, and collections begin May 5,” she whined.
She then complained that people who default on their loans could see their wages garnished as a way to collect on the debt - which is a pretty standard response when someone just refuses to pay what they owe - and ranted that the government could even take the money out of your tax refunds and Social Security benefits.

Another woman took to TikTok to complain that she is "now in debt to the U.S. Department of Education" (having apparently missed the fact that she was already, and that the Trump administration is now simply reminding her of it) and saying she shouldn't have to pay it back because she was only 18 when she took out the loan, which she called a "predatory practice."

She says she shouldn’t be held responsible since she was 18 when she admittedly took the loan.
The excuses these freeloaders make are embarrassing. pic.twitter.com/ABBDWNCyNt
Another dude, who reeks of patchouli and weed so badly you can practically smell it through your phone screen, whined that his mother "forced" him to take out a student loan, saying that "the Boomers" should have to pay back their kids' loans.

Another simply said he isn't paying his loans back, and no one can make him.
Crybaby says he’s not paying back his student loans. He blames everyone in the world except himself who took the loan out.

He thinks he’s entitled to the world carrying him comfortably through life. And since that’s not happening he says he just won’t pay his debts or work. pic.twitter.com/hEKkVM1a3L
There seems to be some confusion about what the word “loan” means, with a whole lot of ignorant people thinking it simply refers to “free money.” It’s not. Student loans are debts that a person voluntarily takes out in order to go to school. The fact that you chose to attend a $200,000 college and live it up for for years, only to realize you can’t pay it back with the $35,000-a-year job you got with your degree in Underwater Basket Weaving, is not the fault of the American taxpayers, many of whom didn’t go to college, who loaned you the cash. Defaulting on your loan doesn’t make it go away - it simply shifts the burden of paying your bill to the taxpayers and, by extension, the federal government, which has already wracked up $37 trillion in debt.
Largely by making asinine financial decisions, of which we cannot afford more.
So shuck it out, sweethearts. And while you’re fishing around in your organic wallet made out of woven hemp and hippie hair, I’ll use the music degree I was smart enough not to get to play you a tune on the world’s smallest violin.
