Nancy Pelosi’s saying the quiet part out loud.
In an uncomfortably awkward moment with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Monday night, the former House Speaker and Democrats' de facto kingmaker admitted she “did what she had to do” to force Joe Biden to step aside as the party’s presidential nominee heading into November, saying she was more concerned about his campaign than she was about him as a person.
“I have to do what I have to do,” Pelosi told Tapper in response to his question over whether she’s talked to him since he “decided” to step aside as the presidential nominee, and whether there may be any bad blood between them following his reluctant-at-best recusal.
“My concern was not about the president, it was about his campaign,” she said.

Pelosi was notably tight-lipped during the final days of Biden’s sinking efforts to stay in the race, refusing to endorse the President and tacitly suggesting Democrats were working to force him to step aside. Biden ultimately announced he was dropping out of the race in a social media post, and it would be several more days before anyone saw him outside his Delaware beach house.
Harris was then ushered to the top of the ticket, bypassing the primary process entirely and replacing Biden as the Democrat Party elite's handpicked nominee.
But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to stay in power - "democracy" be damned.
