The Oregon DMV last week admitted to erroneously registering hundreds of non-citizens to vote, despite their being prohibited from casting a ballot by both state and federal law.
The “mistake” was made, according to local reports, due to a 2019 change in Oregon state law that allowed non-citizens - including people in the country illegally - to get driver’s licenses. Because getting a drivers’ license comes with automatic voter registration, more than 300 people who weren’t legally permitted to vote were put on the voter rolls anyway by default.
You know, kinda like many conservatives were pointing out years ago.
Kevin Glenn, spokesperson for the Oregon Department of Transportation, said his office has already found 306 non-citizens who were wrongly registered to vote. Only two had actually voted since 2021, he added.
However, the glaring mistake raises serious questions regarding other states and localities that have begun allowing non-citizens, including illegal aliens, to obtain driver’s licenses and there documentation that could include automatically registering them to vote in state and federal elections. So far, 18 states - including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington - as well as Washington, D.C. allow non-citizens (again, including people in the country illegally) to obtain drivers’ licenses if they can provide other documentation, such as a foreign birth certificate or proof of residency.

While many states have stipulations that these licenses or ID cards can’t be used for other purposes, such as to vote or to buy a gun, automatic voter registration programs like Oregon’s create a serious risk for automatically adding countless people to the voter rolls before the system is even aware of it.
Which is what many of us have been screaming this whole time.
Not, of course, that leftists care.
