If Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle was “personally overseeing” security at the Republican National Convention as a way to dodge having to testify before Congress, that strategy didn’t work out so well.
The embattled agency head, who has refused to resign following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally last Saturday, was cornered by more than a few angry lawmakers - including Sen. John Barrasso, Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Sen. James Lankford - at the RNC Wednesday night, including senators who demanded to know why she hasn’t responded to their questions.
Dear Republicans - this is how you fight.

They proceeded to grill Cheatle on why Secret Service identified a potential threat at the Trump rally hours before the shooting began and still allowed a gunman to perch on an unsecured roof and open fire on the former president.
“I don’t think this is the forum to have that discussion,” Cheatle responded after spending several minutes mutely nodding along to the senators’ concerns.

“Well you hung up on me!” Barrasso shot back.
Cheatle then claimed the hospitality suite they were all standing in was to “thank the partners who have helped secure the Republican National Convention, and I would not want to take away from them,” to which a senator answered, “Well we can find a place to go right now.”
Cheatle then tried to flee the scene, only to have the senators follow her down the hallway, continuing to pepper her with questions she has yet to answer to anyone’s satisfaction.
