A TV crew out of Chicago was robbed Monday morning while recording a segment about…crime.

That’s literally how terrible the Windy City’s crime problem has gotten.

The Univision news crew, comprised of a 28-year-old man and 42-year-old man, was about to do a story about an armed robbery in West Town shortly before 5 a.m. when a roving gang of ski-masked criminals pulled up in black SUV and a gray sedan and started waving guns. The thieves then stole the crew’s personal belongings before going into their work vehicle and nicking their camera.

Oh, and it’s not the first time. Earlier this month, a Chicago TV news videographer was robbed while setting up to cover a press conference on the West Side.

Chicago police data shows robbery reports are up 22% this year, and this past weekend was no exception. CWBChicago details the recent crime spree involving at least one group of armed thugs who spent Sunday night terrorizing pedestrians and robbing them, assaulting them, or both. At least 30 robberies were reported within a 12-hour span across several communities within the city area.
