Dylan Mulvaney has gone into self-imposed exile in South America after facing backlash from
beer drinkers nationwide over his partnership with Bud Light.

Mulvaney, who has made a social media career from pretending to be a woman, posted a video on TikTok on July 10 of the scenery at Machu Picchu after a three month social media absence. Mulvaney described how he had engaged in ceremonies with shamans which were “like 10 years worth of therapy” and encountered numerous llamas during his time in Peru.

When not channeling unknown spiritual entities and interacting with the local ungulates, Mulvaney has expressed hope of eventually returning to the United States, even though the influencer says he “had to leave my country to feel safe."

It seems strange that Mulvaney would choose Peru as his country of refuge. Unlike the United States, Peru does not recognize homosexual marriage. Hate crime laws in Peru do not recognize crimes against so-called "transgender people." Peru also has seen a spike in murders of men claiming to be "trans women."

Mulvaney probably could have been more comfortable in a blue state.

Then again, even Mulvaney’s American media allies seem to have joined the long line of individuals hurting his feelings. On Tuesday, CNN correspondent made the mistake of correctly identifying Mulvaney as a male in a segment covering the Bud Light backlash, before adding additional insult to injury by mispronouncing Mulvaney’s first name as “Dylvan.”

Considering that even the supposedly sympathetic CNN is unwilling to play along with his fantasy, perhaps it is understandable that Mulvaney would wish to leave the country.
