Ahh, gaslighting.
It’s the standard operating procedure of government. From its foundational gangster line of, “We’re here to protect you and your stuff from injury and theft, so pay us or we’ll hurt you,” to “if you complain, YOU are the aggressive one saying evil things,” it’s easy to see who the aggressor and manipulator truly is.
And so we see California Governor Gavin Newsom in the light of truth, as he embarks on his next phase of gaslighting.
Spouting the unsupportable claim that people are at terrible risk without the mNRA jabs Biden has tried to foist on federal employees, employees at businesses of 100 or more, truckers and shippers entering the U.S. borders or docking at state ports, military members, and those operating under the auspices of Medicare and Medicaid, Newsom last week announced the creation of a tax-funded “state unit" to combat..."propaganda."
For those media figures who are as obtuse as Newsom, getting the state involved in propagating what its tax-fed figures call truth? That’s the epitome of the word "PROPAGANDA."
Writes an evidently unaware Tom Tapp, for Deadline, via Yahoo:
The post-pandemic ‘S.M.A.R.T.E.R’ Plan that Newsom put forth today to combat Covid seeks to combat misinformation ‘through the newly proposed Office of Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications,’ funding for which the governor indicated is included in his proposed 2022-23 budget.
Similar to the move by NJ Governor Phil Murphy on which I reported in 2018 (a move that saw Murphy and his pals in the NJ legislature create a multi-million-dollar “Civic Information Consortium”), and similar in theme to the fascist, 2016 created-and-2021 renewed “Portman-Murphy Countering Foreign Propaganda Act” that lets the feds shovel $150 million into government-friendly dinosaur news outlets if they “fight the evil foreign propaganda” – in other words, if they conform to or spread the US government propaganda, Newsom wants an "Office of Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications".
And, lo-and-behold, it will:
...be ‘a brand new unit in the state government. It’s a strategic partnership unit and a communications unit,’ according to Newsom, that will also ‘support and amplify local and community-based partnerships’ and work with trusted community voices to get the message out.
‘We put out this week a partnership with 250 media outlets,’ said the governor today of a new, related initiative, ‘these Mythbuster videos in a culturally-competent way to go after this misinformation.’
When Mussolini engaged in this, it was called…
Fascism.

But this is all about scientific truth, and only the government can define “the science” and “the truth,” right?
The governor added, ‘And we continue to ask these outlets promoting misinformation to stop. People, quite literally, have lost their lives because of that promotion.’
Newsom refers to “outlets” like FoxNews, OAN, and other conservative media sources that might, oh, offer alternative information, like the fact that he broke his own supposedly “SCIENCE”-based COVID-19 lockdown diktats, numerous times.
Because it’s about his version of truth.
Which is best for us.
And, let’s ask him if he’s familiar with this timeless quote, from Thomas Jefferson:
“To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”
Would Gavin Newsom agree, or would he dispel that as “propaganda,” and compel taxpayers to shell out cash to counter the idea of freedom of speech itself?
