While California continues to promote the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and their mockery of Christianity. Christian organizations in California are rightly standing up for their faith.

The California Family Council (CFC), the American Council, and the California Catholic Conference hosted a “Prayer Vigil” on Monday while the California Senate honored a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, during which California legislators walked off the Senate and Assembly floors to the west steps of the State Capitol to gather in prayer and worship.

“It’s disheartening to see the California Legislature honor a group characterized by its mockery of Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular,” CFC President Jonathan Keller stated in a press release. “By promoting the profane ‘Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,’ these elected leaders are endorsing mockery, hatred, and blasphemy. This ceremony is deeply offensive towards millions of Californians across the Golden State.”

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a group of men in drag who dress in gross caricatures of Catholic nuns while openly denigrating the Christian faith, including by hosting crucifixion-themed strip shows before crowing the "hunkiest Jesus" at their public events.

After Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) invited “Sister Roma” to be honored at the Senate during a Pride Month event, all eight California Republicans in the chamber released a letter calling for the withdrawal of the invitation. Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins refused, according to the press release.

“This isn’t partisan. We had to walk out today in conscience because we could not stand for religious bigotry anywhere,” Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher said during the event. “As a Christian, I know that’s why we are gathered here today because we felt that hurt of our faith that we hold so dear being denigrated, being held in such a vulgar light.”

“What I want to do is I want to pray for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” Gallagher continues. “I want to pray that they be reconciled because the truth of Jesus Christ is for all.”

Despite California’s reputation of disdain for Christianity and conservatism, it encourages me, as a California native, to see notable figures defend their faith amid the indecency being promoted across the state.
