One-time lawyer to porn stars and CNN’s favorite anti-Trump conspiracy theorist Michael Avenatti won’t be making any appearances on cable news to discuss high school sex trafficking rings anytime soon.
Given that, well, he’s been arrested.
Again.
The IRS reportedly picked Avenatti up around 6 p.m. Tuesday during a break in a separate disciplinary hearing in L.A. over allegations that Avenatti had scammed a former client, Gregory Barela, out of $840,000, Fox News reports. After he didn’t show back up to the hearing thanks to having been picked up for other alleged crimes, his lawyer informed the court he would not be returning because of “circumstances related to a criminal matter in Orange County,” the report added.
His lawyer also said there should be a bail hearing set for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Avenatti stands accused of fraud, cheating on his taxes, lying to investigators, and embezzlement. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in L.A. told Fox News that Avenatti’s Tuesday’s arrest was for suspicion of violating his pre-trial release.
The arrest also gummed up the works for Avenatti’s travel plans to New York, where he was supposed to show up this week for his (also separate) criminal trial over allegations that he tried to extort $25 million from Nike.
