A former Secretary of State has high praise for President-elect Trump’s pick for the position she once held.

Condoleezza Rice, who served as Secretary of State under President George W. Bush for four years, praised Trump’s pick, Rex Tillerson, as “an excellent choice” in a statement released on her Facebook page.

“I know Rex as a successful business man and a patriot,” Rice said. “He will represent the interests and the values of the United States with resolve and commitment. And he will lead the exceptional men and women of the State Department with respect and dedication.”

“I look forward to supporting Rex through the confirmation process and then welcoming him to the family of Secretaries of State.”

Rumors had been circulating over the weekend that Tillerson was the new favorite to land the position. Trump confirmed the nomination with a tweet early Tuesday morning, calling Tillerson “one of the truly great business leaders of the world.”

The selection of Tillerson, the current CEO of ExxonMobil, ends weeks of drama and speculation about who Trump would choose. The early favorite was rumored to be Rudy Giuliani, an avid supporter of Trump throughout the campaign, before he was eclipsed by Mitt Romney, who had repeatedly criticized Trump during the election. Also rumored to be on the short-list were former General Davit Petraeus, former Ambassador John Bolton, and Senator Bob Corker (R-TN).

Unsurprisingly, liberals began criticizing Tillerson even before Trump formally made his announcement. Their main critique is that Tillerson's ties to Russia are too close.

As a businessman, Tillerson was involved with working on major oil projects with Russia. In 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Tillerson with the Order of Friendship, one of the highest honors Russia can give to foreign citizens.

The rhetoric liberals have used when discussing Tillerson has been, sadly, about as ridiculous as the rhetoric used to describe other Trump picks. Joy Behar even went so far on Monday’s edition of The View to demand that Trump “step down” from the presidency for considering Tillerson.

Because, as always, if you don’t conform to liberal belief, you must be punished.
