Another medical horror story is coming from a place you would not expect. Only a barbaric country would allow its citizens to die for being an inconvenience. But this tragedy comes from our friends across the pond in England.
According to the Post Millennial, UK parents have lost an appeal to keep their son alive even though he’s breathing.
Twelve-year-old Archie Battersbee suffered a tragic brain injury that left him on life support. UK’s National Health Service wanted to remove Arche from life support for many weeks as the service believed it was against his best interests. His parents rightfully fought against it. The parents brought this issue to the British court, which ruled against them. They appealed. Despite the evidence of Archie’s viability, the High court still ruled to take him off life-support. Sick stuff that only gets worse.
Lawyer Edward Devereux represented the parents and claimed they would try new evidence in a new appeal. Archie’s Mom, Hollie Dance, has reportedly seen Archie try to breathe on his own on two separate occasions. "We disagree with the idea of dignity in death. Enforcing it on us and hastening his death for that purpose is profoundly cruel," she said. "It is for God to decide what should happen to Archie, including if, when and how he should die."
The high court showed no mercy to this family and ruled that Archie could be taken off life support by July 15. Justice Hayden ruled based on the inevitable failure of Archie’s brain.
"This court has to ask itself whether continuation of ventilation, in this case, is in Archie's best interests," Hayden said. "It is with the most profound regret, but on the most compelling of evidence, that I am driven to conclude that it is not." So I guess Archie’s best interest involves him dying.
No surprise that the increasingly secular European country has no regard for human life.
