“He needs to be impeached NOW!” Elon Musk declared Saturday after an Obama-appointed judge blocked the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from exposing Treasury Department waste of taxpayers’ money.

Musk, who heads DOGE, called for the impeachment of “a corrupt judge protecting corruption,” in reply to a social media post on X.com by commentator Glenn Beck, who noted the absurdity of blocking the Treasury Department from accessing Treasury data.

Musk and Beck

While U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent supports DOGE’s efforts to root out wasteful spending, 19 Democrat state attorneys general – led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who prosecuted Trump on dubious fraud charges being appealed – filed a lawsuit to block the audit.

James will reportedly be the subject of a probe by a “Weaponization Working Group” created to investigate past politicization of the Justice Department.

In a ruling on Saturday, Obama-appointed District Judge Paul Engelmayer temporarily blocked DOGE from reviewing Treasury Department expenditures – and signaled he plans to make the block permanent.

Musk has doubled down in subsequent posts by supporting other calls for the impeachment of Judge Engelmayer.

Musk Its Time

“Impeach the judge,” former Republican Florida congressman and Attorney Matt Gaetz responded to Musk’s “corrupt judge” post. “Yes,” Musk replied to Gaetz.

Another Florida attorney, Kevin Gross, called for the judge’s impeachment in a post explaining how the judge’s interference with DOGE, a department created by the Executive Branch, violates the separation of powers prescribed by the U.S. Constitution:

“A judge has no Constitutional authority to ban an Executive Branch appointee from accessing anything in an Executive Branch agency. The President is the head of the branch. The judge has no power over that plenary Constitutional authority. Defy the orders. Impeach the judge.”

Since its creation, DOGE has uncovered millions of dollars and a wide range of wasteful government spending. Examples include:
