House Republicans were never going to vote for Senate Democrats’ border security bill after they read what was in it, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) says – and he’s got a list of 10 reasons why it’s “a trash deal.”

Rep. Donalds provided his list of “Why the Senate Border Deal FAILED” in a social media post on Monday, citing 10 onerous provisions of the Democrats’ bill:

1–Codify Catch/Release

2–Let in 1.8M Illegals

3–Fund Sanctuary Cities

4–Fund NGOs Moving Illegals

5–Lawyers to Illegals

6–Work Permits to Illegals

7–Nothing to Deport Illegals

8–No Immediate Wall Funds

9–Weak Asylum Screening

10–$60B to Ukraine

Rep. Donalds’ post also includes video from his remarks at last Thursday’s House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on Biden Administration policies, when he said he wanted to “set the record straight” regarding both the Senate proposal and the House-passed border security bill (H.R. 2):

“I read the text of the Senate bill. Many members in the House read the text of the Senate bill.

“Members contacted Speaker Johnson and we were very clear: there is no way the Senate bill should get a vote in the House – because it is a terrible piece of legislation that will not secure the southern border.”

What’s more, President Joe Biden has refused to negotiate, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has refused to even allow debate on, House Republicans’ border security bill, Rep. Donalds noted:

“Has Chuck Schumer brought it up for even debate or a vote in the Senate? No, he has not.

“Has the White House decided to reach out to Speaker Johnson to debate and deliberate or negotiate or compromise on H.R. 2 and its elements to secure the southern border? No, they have not.

“They’re in charge in the Senate and in the White House. They’ve done nothing, except a bill that couldn’t even make it out of the Senate. So, I think it’s important to set the record straight.”

Donalds also set the record straight regarding Democrats’ false claim that former President Donald Trump had pressured Republicans to oppose the Senate bill. Republicans opposed it for being “a trash deal,” even before the Republican presidential candidate voiced his opinion, Rep. Donalds said:

“Oh also, by the way, House Republicans weren’t going to vote for that bill.

“And that was before Donald Trump even made his view known on the Senate compromise bill. We were already against it when the text came out – because it’s a trash bill.”
