Facing protests over his Friday vote to keep the federal government from shutting down, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced Monday that he’s postponing this week’s scheduled book tour for “security concerns.”
Sen. Schumer, who sided with the 2020 rioters he deemed “peaceful” – who torched buildings, destroyed businesses and ravaged cities across the U.S. – over police, is apparently so frightened by the prospect of being protested that he has indefinitely “postponed” the tour promoting his new book, “Antisemitism in America: A Warning.”
“Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer canceled the kickoff events of his book tour amid intense backlash over his vote to advance a GOP spending bill,” The Washington Post reported Monday.
A spokesperson for Schumer's book tour told ABC News that "due to security concerns, Senator Schumer's book events are being rescheduled."
Schumer had been scheduled to make appearances in six cities across the U.S., CNN notes:
“Chuck Schumer has postponed his book tour events amid anger from within the Democratic Party over the Senate minority leader’s handling of the government funding fight in Congress.
“This week, the Democratic leader was scheduled to appear in Baltimore, Washington, DC, New York City, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Francisco, to discuss his new book, ‘Antisemitism in America: A Warning.’”
Protests at Sen. Schumer’s home have been ongoing ever since the Democrat leader voted for the continuing resolution to keep the government funded, rather than allow it to shut down at midnight on Friday, The New York Times explains:
“Many Democratic activists, desperate for their leaders to stand up to President Trump, have been staging protests outside of Senator Chuck Schumer’s home and calling for his resignation.”
Following his vote, outraged Democrats have been calling for Sen. Schumer to be replaced as the party’s Senate candidate and leader. Meanwhile, progressive groups such as MoveOn and activists wielding social media have been rallying protests.
“It’s past time for Democrats to fight and stop acting like it’s business as usual,” MoveOn Spokesman Joel Payne told the Associated Press.
Ironically, while Schumer’s book purports to be a “warning” about antisemitism, he has long faced criticism for failing the Jewish community, such as when, as Senate majority leader, he failed to bring the bipartisan “Antisemitism Awareness Act” up for a vote.
