“Every life is precious and everybody deserves a shot at life, no matter where they come from,” Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) told attendees at Friday’s March for Life in Washington, D.C., thanking them for their efforts to defend innocent lives from abortion.
“I want to thank everybody, each and every one of you, who came here to Washington today to celebrate God’s greatest gifts: life,” Sen. Kennedy told attendees in a video message he posted on social media.
Kennedy declared that support for abortion is a “barbaric” and “indefensible” position rejected by most Americans – and stressed the importance of taking part in the March for Life, even though it’s difficult:
“When radicals push hard for these indefensible positions, we just have to have good people like you to stand up in front of God and Country and speak up for innocent life.
“I know it’s not easy, but it’s the right thing to do and I thank you for doing it.”
Kennedy reassured the marchers that their efforts aren’t going unnoticed and are having a positive influence by publicly affirming the beliefs and values held by Americans throughout the nation.
“Every life is precious,” Kennedy repeatedly declared. “My message is simple, and I guess it’s probably your message, too, but this is what I believe: every life is precious,” the senator said.
“God bless all of you and God bless the mothers and the unborn babies you are working so hard to protect,” Sen. Kennedy said.

A transcript of Sen. Kennedy's full remarks is presented below:
My name is John Kennedy. I am a United States senator – though, I have tried to rise above it.
I want to thank everybody, each and every one of you, who came here to Washington today to celebrate God’s greatest gifts: life.
Life.
Here in the Senate, I’ve been able to question a number of witnesses and officials who, believe it or not, support abortion up until the moment of birth.
Now, some of them, they just admit it outright. No shame at all. In my judgement, that’s just a barbaric position and I don’t think the American people support it. I know you don’t.
That’s one of the reasons it’s so important – I just can’t tell you how important what you’re doing is – so important that you’re here at our Capitol making your voice heard, because the people you represent are at the moment voiceless.
When radicals push hard for these indefensible positions, we just have to have good people like you to stand up in front of God and Country and speak up for innocent life.
I know it’s not easy, but it’s the right thing to do and I thank you for doing it.
My message is simple, and I guess it’s probably your message too, but this is what I believe: every life is precious.
Every life is precious and everybody deserves a shot at life, no matter where they come from.
I am praying that this year’s march is as successful as ever and it spreads this message far and wide.
I also want you to know that your efforts to support moms and give a voice to the voiceless do not go unnoticed. They do not.
There is no doubt in my mind that your courage to march will inspire so many of the folks watching from home to stand up for their values and their beliefs and live them out in their everyday lives.
I’m proud to join Americans across every state in saluting you as you stand tall for innocent life.
Every life is precious. Every life is precious.
God bless all of you and God bless the mothers and the unborn babies you are working so hard to protect.
