Fully 41% of the nation’s young voters believe UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson’s murder was “acceptable” and nearly twice as many Democrats as Republicans agree, a new Emerson College Polling survey reveals.
“Do you think the actions of the killer of the United Healthcare CEO are acceptable or unacceptable?” the national survey conducted December 11-13 asked U.S. voters.
Two-thirds (68%) all voters say the murder was unacceptable, with 59% deeming it “completely unacceptable.” Seventeen percent (17%) call the murder at least somewhat acceptable, while 16% are unsure.
More than one in five (22%) Democrat voters are accepting of the murder, with 10% finding it “completely acceptable.” In contrast, just 12% of Republican voters and 16% Independents agree.
The nation’s youngest voters (18-29) are the most likely to sign off on Thompson’s murder, with 41% considering it to be at least somewhat acceptable, including 17% who call it “completely” acceptable.
Tolerance for the murder declines with age, falling to just 10% of voters who are at least 60 years old.
Views on healthcare also appear tied to acceptance of the healthcare CEO’s murder.
Here, more than a third (35%) of voters who say healthcare is the “most important issue” facing the country today also deem the murder acceptable, including 17% who find it to be completely acceptable.
Ironically, Mangione has the same favorability (20%) as both FBI Director Christopher Wray and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), according to national survey by Economist/YouGov.
Wray has announced that he will resign before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, while Senator John Thune (R-S.D.) will replace McConnell as leader in January when the new Congress convenes and Republicans assume the majority.
The liberal legacy media’s coverage of Thompson’s murder may have influenced voters’ views, as well, with some hosts encouraging acceptable – and others actually cheering – the murder.
As MRCTV’s Brittany Hughes reports, murder-related merchandise has even become a hot item as some consumers “are busy gobbling up trinkets celebrating” the murder suspect:
“Murderer merch is flying off the shelves as leftists the country over continue to fetishize Luigi Mangione, the deranged lunatic who allegedly shot United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson to death on a Manhattan sidewalk last week.”
….
“A jacket sold by clothing retailer Macy’s for $225 went flying off the shelves, selling out mere hours after some internet users identified it as the same coat - or at least, remarkably similar to it - that Mangione was wearing in the surveillance video showing him gunning Thompson down in cold blood.”
