Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is showing substantial signs of improvement after suffering cardiac arrest on Monday night.

Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said that Hamlin has begun to be responsive to questions and that he can move his extremities. Hamlin is still on a respirator so he is unable to speak, but he has been writing out questions and answers to a team of doctors.

Hamlin’s first question was whether or not his team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, humorously showing just how much of a competitor he is. While he learned that the game was suspended -- and as the NFL announced last night, canceled for good -- the doctors gave him a fitting response to his question.

“The answer is yes, Damar, you won the game of life,” one doctor on duty said

The Bills released a statement thanking all those who have supported Hamlin over the last few days. All of the well wishes and prayers -- like the one from ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky -- seem to be yielding good results.

The good news has eased the minds of many of Hamlin’s teammates, who are preparing for their regular season finale against longtime-AFC East division foe, the New England Patriots, on Sunday at 1 p.m.

"You lose sleep. You're hurt for your brother," quarterback Josh Allen said. "A lot of shared grief but, to the question before, getting updates and positive updates eases so much of that pain and that tension that you feel."
