Defense Sec. Austin Directs Pentagon to Make 'Promoting' LGBTQI+ Rights a Priority 'Around the World'

What is going on with the military lately? I thought they were supposed to remain politically neutral? First, a group associated with the United States Marine Corps verbally attacked Fox News host Tucker Carlson for his opinion on their increasingly “woke” stances. Now, the new defense secretary is issuing a directive, passed down from President Joe Biden’s regime in a February 4 memorandum, that the Pentagon must make “championing and safeguarding the human rights” of LGBTQI+ “individuals by April 15,” according to Air Force Magazine (AFM).

According to the memo published by AFM, all of the following “components” must be adhered to and implemented by April 15:

  • Strengthen existing efforts to combat the criminalization by foreign governments of LGBTQI+ status or conduct and expand efforts to combat discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, and intolerance on the basis of LGBTQI+ status or conduct.
  • Expand ongoing efforts to ensure regular DoD engagement with governments, citizens, civil society, and the private sector to promote respect for the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons and combat discrimination.
  • Consider the impact of programs funded by DoD on human rights, including the rights of LGBTQI+ persons, when making funding decisions.
  • Strengthen the work DoD has done and initiate additional efforts with other nations, bilaterally and within multilateral fora and international organizations, to: counter discrimination on the basis of LGBTQI+ status or conduct; broaden the number of countries willing to support and defend the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons; strengthen the role, including in multilateral fora, of civil society advocates on behalf of the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons; and strengthen the policies and programming of multilateral institutions, including with respect to protecting vulnerable LGBTQI+ refugees and asylum seekers.

Here we go again, meddling in the affairs of “foreign governments” when we appear to not be able to run our own. We don’t have to agree with what other nations policies might be towards certain segments of populations, but that doesn’t mean we need to spend taxpayer dollars all so people who might never change their stance understands that plight of the Alphabet mafia.

“In accordance with the Presidential Memorandum, it is the policy of the DOD to pursue an end to violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics,” Austin wrote, “and DOD will lead by example in the cause of advancing the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons around the world.”

We should be protecting and prioritizing ALL human rights, regardless of any personal identifier. Just make laws that protect everyone — oh wait, we already have those? I see. So this is just about virtue signaling and being “woke,” or making separate, wasteful policies that undermine the original policies all so everyone feels included.

Everyone should feel safe in their own skin. That’s a basic human want. No one is arguing that anyone shouldn’t be afforded the rights granted to them by God and the Constitution. But we need to stop always catering to the offended.

Maybe all this has something to do with Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III being the “woke” conduit for the Biden regime? Maybe not. Only time will tell.
