A brave gun owner in Oak Park, Michigan prevented both himself and his friend from getting robbed by using his firearm, according to Red State.

The two men were walking back from visiting a friend in their neighborhood when all of a sudden a man, identified by police as Meyer D. Thedford, pulled up in an SUV with a handgun announcing a robbery.

Thedford, however, picked the wrong victims to rob, as one of the two men had a concealed carry license and a gun. The man defended himself with his firearm and exchanged multiple shots with Thedford, wounding him.

The two targeted men were left unharmed as Thedford fled from his car on foot.

Police officers were called to the scene after another neighbor reported the gunshots. Oak Park Public Safety Lt. Marlon Benson said that when officers arrived they found a small SUV filled with bullet holes and more than 10 shell casings around the vehicle, according to the Royal Oak Tribune.

Police then searched the neighborhood for the suspect and found him by following the suspect’s blood trail.

Thedford is looking at multiple charges, including “illegally possessing a firearm and possessing a firearm while committing a felony.”

This is just another instance that proves that allowing law-abiding citizens to carry guns can save lives and prevent crimes.

Statistics have shown that guns are used for defensive purposes more than 1 million times per year.
