President Trump in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity that aired Thursday night slammed House Democrats for knowingly holding a hearing with his former personal attorney Michael Cohen during his summit in Vietnam with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

He argued that the timing of the hearing, which was reported on by broadcast networks with such zeal and excitement, “was really inappropriate.”

“Well, I think maybe more than anything else, the fact that they held it today where I’m working on something that is very, very important for the world, not only our country, for the world, was really inappropriate,” said Trump. “The Democrats, the hatred is so incredible, and they couldn’t help themselves, and that’s the way it is.”

Trump said that while the summit ended early after he and Kim could not reach an agreement on sanctions and other key details, they “had a very good two days.”

“I think we had a very good two days, but I just don’t think maybe either of us were ready,” said the president.

Trump held a press conference Thursday after news broke that the summit would be wrapping up early where he said that, “Sometimes you have to walk.”

“This was just one of those times,” he said.

During his interview with Hannity, Trump revealed that he and Kim did reach an understanding regarding testing of nuclear ballistic missiles, saying that Kim is "not going to do testing ... No rockets, no anything."

“And I believe, you know, when he tells me that," he said. "I will take him at his word. But we’ll see how it all goes.”

As to his opinion of Cohen's testimony on Capitol Hill, Trump called it "a terrible display of dishonesty."
