It has been less than week since Juneteenth became a federal holiday, and the far left is already signaling that it means “reparations” for slavery are on the docket.
On June 19, Somali-American U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) celebrated the new federal holiday with the promise that the U.S. is now one step closer to legislating serious radical leftist racial policy. The representative wrote, “Proud #Juneteenth is now a federal holiday. As we reflect on the significance of what this day symbolizes, let’s keep fighting to address the lasting consequences of slavery.” Oh, no. Here we go with America is still racist thing again.
Omar added, “Next step: reparations.”

As we reflect on the significance of what this day symbolizes, let’s keep fighting to address the lasting consequences of slavery.

Juneteenth the holiday, of course, is a day of remembrance for the last remaining slave colony in Texas which found out it was free after the end of the Civil War. But the far left wants to take this celebration of the end of slavery and use it to push destructive critical race theory-based policies like getting current taxpayers to pony up money to the descendants of slaves.
Of course, reparations and racial justice policies have been part of the progressive politician’s agenda for a while now. Shortly following the death of George Floyd – which sparked a rash of radical ideas about having America reckon with its systemic racism – Omar and the other members of “The Squad,” including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), supported the “BREATHE ACT” police reform bill.
The “BREATHE ACT” received heavy criticism for being woke and way too progressive. Fox News reported it “would radically transform the nation's criminal justice system by eliminating life sentences, retroactively expunging drug crimes, shutting down multiple federal agencies and permanently closing prisons and immigration detention centers.” GOP politicians like Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) described the bill as “clearly a serious effort to compete in the Woke Olympics.” Kennedy also remarked that the bill belonged in the “shredder.”
Omar is clearly part of the “defund the police” movement and also believes that systemic racism pervades most American institutions. In July 2020, Omar told members of the press, “We are not merely fighting to tear down systems of oppression in the criminal justice system — we are fighting to tear down systems of oppression that exist in housing, in education, in health care, in employment and in the very air we breathe.”
Again, this was in the context of the killing of George Floyd. Omar has admitted she’s fully onboard with the Marxist Black Lives Matter organization’s aims to remake society in its own image. In November 2020, Omar tweeted, “In Minnesota, Black Lives Matter was on the ballot. George Floyd was on the ballot. Racial justice was on the ballot. The result? Record turnout, a swing towards Democrats and gains in the suburbs. When we put in the work, we can win suburban voters on racial justice.”
It’s obvious that Omar is using the Juneteenth holiday as a way to get BLM-inspired politics to change the country as well. So much for celebrating the end of slavery won through the Civil War. For the far left it was just another Trojan Horse to use to continue their culture war.
