An illegal alien has been charged with sexually assaulting two children under the age of 13.

According to this, Francisco Barrera-Capistran, a 36-year-old illegal alien from Mexico who'd been living in Florida, was arrested last week in Bergen County, New Jersey and charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault by contact, and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from incidents that reportedly took place in 2017, when Barrera-Capistran allegedly assaulted two minors under the age of 13.

He has been placed under an immigration detainer, indicating that he was in the country unlawfully at the time of his arrest. The detainer requests that local law enforcement notify ICE at least 48 hours before releasing Barrera-Capistran on bail or any other judge's order so that immigration officials can take over custody for separate immigration proceedings.

Unfortunately, the state of New Jersey often declines to honor ICE detainers, having put policies in place that protect illegal aliens from being turned over to federal immigration authorities.

This latest story comes amid a continuing wave of illegal immigration at the Southwest U.S. border. Nearly 2 million illegal aliens were caught unlawfully crossing into the United States via the southern border last calendar year alone, while another 154,000 were nabbed in January. That's nearly twice the 78,000 that were caught in January of 2021, and more than four times the 36,585 caught in January 2020.
