They’re not elected officials, so I can confidently say that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), along with other alphabet agencies (I’m looking at you, FBI), should at the very least have their funding reduced. However, we live in clown world, so these agencies are currently getting a boost, all thanks to…oh, that’s right — our tax dollars.

All that said, the story going around that the IRS is looking to hire Special Agents that are “willing to use deadly force” as part of its current hiring boom of over 80,000 new employees that was part of the Inflation Reduction Act that was recently passed in the Senate, is not a new practice or hiring requirement.

In fact, once the posting began receiving new and social media attention, the IRS promptly deleted the job posting, according to the National Review.

The IRS has had “Special Agents” in its law enforcement division for years. A 2017 report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) stated that the IRS basically had and has an arsenal of weapons in their inventory that would make the National Rifle Association (NRA) blush.

As reported in a 2019 Forbes article:

An official report says that at the end of 2017, the tax agency had 4,487 guns and 5,062,006 rounds of ammunition in its weapons inventory. So says this report published by the Government Accountability Office. The IRS isn't the only agency with guns, of course. Many federal agencies are reviewed and assessed in the GAO study, with this not exactly page-turning title: Purchases and Inventory Controls of Firearms, Ammunition, and Tactical Equipment (GAO-19-175) (Dec 13, 2018). It was also noted on the influential TaxProf Blog. Some of the guns the IRS has are not for the faint of heart, including a few fully automatic guns. Yes, those are machine guns. Only the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS gets to carry guns.

That’s right. IRS “Special Agents” even have access to weapons that are illegal for American civilians to own. While the government can carry around machine guns to take money from you that isn’t theirs in the first place, many politicians in the same government are doing all they can to infringe on your Second Amendment rights to bear arms.

Still think these agencies should exist, or at least exist to the level they currently occupy?
