5-star high school football recruit Colin Simmons boldly gave credit to God for his team’s state championship win on Saturday.

The defensive end from Duncanville High School (TX) helped guide his team to a second consecutive Class 6A Division 1 state title, beating North Shore 49-33. After the game, Simmons could easily have used this time to prop himself up and talk all kinds of smack about his opponent.

Instead, Simmons had a far more God-centered and refreshing perspective on his team’s victory.

As members of the press started shoving cameras and microphones in his face, Simmons grabbed a Bible and unashamedly gave credit to God so that all the world could hear.

“It ain’t nobody but God, it ain’t nobody but God,” Simmons said. “I am who I am. I’m going to keep it real with you today, it ain’t nobody but God, God himself…We wouldn’t be nothing without God, nothing!”

In an age in which belief in God is at an all-time low and arrogance among athletes is at an all-time high, it’s so encouraging to see a young man take this humble approach after a victory. This won’t boost his social media following, earn him any favors with the media, or improve his reputation amongst teammates. But Simmons did it anyway, because he seems to know where all athletic success comes from in the first place. That’s not something you see every day.

Simmons declared he’s staying in the Lone Star State for college ball, as he signed with the Texas Longhorns today. Looks like the Burnt Orange landed one heck of a player.
