Even the Leftist Media Know Shedeur Sanders Wasn't a Victim of Racism

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders wasn’t selected until the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.

Many people originally thought that Sanders would get drafted within the top five picks. But pick by pick, round by round, it became clear that wouldn’t happen.

Finally, the Browns took him with the 144th overall pick on the final day of the draft.

While Sanders kept sliding down the draft, people everywhere on social media claimed that the young quarterback was being punished because of his skin color. Former NBA star Stephen Jackson said that people didn’t like it when they saw a confident black man and therefore sought to make an example of him.

However, that’s not the case (it almost never is in sports, by the way). Sanders was labelled as “brash” and “arrogant” after multiple team interviews before the draft, and many NFL evaluators saw him as an average at best quarterback. Furthermore, he showed on multiple occasions in college that he was quite the disrespectful, entitled brat.

Normally, I’d be the only one pointing this out, because left-winged media would be pushing the racism narrative ad nauseum. But in a shocking turn of events, two typically progressive news sources called bull on the race-baiting narrative surrounding Sanders.

First, there’s Andscape, and ESPN-affiliated blog that makes a living off making every sports story it can about race. On Monday, Jason Reid published an article on this site titled: “Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Draft Slide Wasn’t Because of Racism.” That’s a wildly unusual position for anyone at Andscape to take.

After writing a long and well-articulated piece about how many NFL scouts simply thought Sanders wasn’t a good player, Reid made the following conclusion:

“For the NFL, Sanders wasn’t worth a high-round pick. That’s just a fact. To ascribe his situation to racism, however, demeans Sanders, as well as the accomplishments of the star Black quarterbacks thriving in today’s game.”

Someone check to see if hell has frozen over, because we finally have an example of an Andscap writer making an intelligent argument.

Another surprising source of reason cam from Bomani Jones, another guy who loves to put race at the center of sports narratives. On an episode of his podcast “The Right Time,” he said that those who made it seem like Sanders was suffering for his beliefs like Colin Kapernick should be ashamed of themselves. (Kaepernick got what he deserved, but I digress).

“If your argument is ‘They wanted to show this outspoken Black man his place,’ number one, let us stop acting like outspoken and obnoxious are perfect synonyms,” Jones said. “They are not. Show me something that Shedeur Sanders has spoken out about. Tell me what that thing is, tell me what his cause is. He is not outspoken. I have not seen any reason to call him outspoken. Even if you think he has been treated unfairly, ‘outspoken’ is a stretch. And it is a ridiculous thing to say about him, I believe.”

Again, here we have an example of a racism-loving reporter seeing the truth. Sanders was not drafted until the fifth round because the NFL hates Black quarterbacks. He was not picked until then because of his obnoxious personality and average talent.

I never thought I would see the day where either Andscape or Jones would think logically about a sports issue like this. But there is a first time for everything.
