Guess who’s mad that Iowa doesn’t allow men to compete in women’s sports? If you guessed Lia Thomas, you’re correct.

The former University of Pennsylvania swimmer - who was a male competing on the women’s team - spoke at the “Trans Athletes and the Future of Sports” event at Iowa State University earlier this month. Fox News noted that in addition to Thomas, “Dr. Kelly Winfrey, an associate professor in women gender studies at the school, moderated the event, and Dr. Christina Roberts, a pediatrics professor specializing in adolescent health, joined One Iowa Policy and Advocacy Director Keenan Crow at the event.”

I’m sure you can already guess that this discussion was a cesspool of nonsense.

Citing a bill passed by Gov. Kim Reynolds in 2022, Thomas took issue with the fact that "transwomen" (biological males) cannot compete on women’s sports teams in the state.

"With the ban here in Iowa…the state is actively saying to trans kids, ‘You don’t deserve to participate. You are actually being excluded," Thomas said. "I had a team, a group I could identify with…it gave me that belonging. Athletics and, for me, the water, was just…a place of peace where I could leave my worries outside."

While sports do give people a place to belong, that does not mean that women have to be subjugated to being around mentally disturbed and physically dominant men. Men might be able to “leave their worries” outside when they compete with women (whatever that means), but the same cannot be said for the real women on those teams.

"Excluding trans athletes from sports denies them the chance to participate in a part of life that teaches resilience, teamwork and community…there’s value in just being on a team and being included, especially for young people who might be struggling to find acceptance," Crow said

Again, I get the argument about wanting to belong - which men can, on men's teams. But as Breitbart stated, the law does not prevent trans athletes from competing in sports, it just requires them to compete on teams that correlate to their birth gender (a radical concept, I know). These students can find acceptance: as long as they don’t play on teams where they don’t belong.

I don’t expect a deranged man like Thomas to be happy about Iowa’s law, but anyone with a decent level of common sense should be.
